On January 2001 TD started working on Dante Alighieri´s La Divina Commedia. This deeply philosophical and mysterious story tells the reader the paths that every human has to travel before ending up in a final resting place of absolute divinity.

This deeply philosophical and mysterious story tells the reader the paths  that every human has to travel before ending up in a final resting place of absolute divinity. The writing, the rehearsals and the recordings took over five years, all-in-all.

After the release of Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso, all three parts were performed live with a band and singers together with the Symphonic Orchestra at open air concerts (Museum Island, Berlin) and in concert halls (Royal Festival Hall, London).

In summer 2003 Edgar was introduced to a studio technician who had an extensive understanding of the various types of new-fangled modern technological requirements which TD was surrounded by in the modern age. Thorsten Quaeschning also happened to be a highly proficient piano player, with classical and prog-rock roots. In June 2005, Edgar, Jerome, Thorsten, Linda Spa, Iris Camaa and Zlatko Perica performed the 35th Phaedra Anniversary Concert at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London. Thorsten’s first composer credit was on Jeanne d´Arc, which was performed live at the French Cathedral in Berlin in July 2005.

Jerome Froese left the band and started his solo career in 2006. In 2011 he joined former TD-member Johannes Schmoelling and Robert Waters to form the band Loom.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary (1967–2007) of Tangerine Dream, the band performed at the London Astoria on the 20th of April, 2007, and an open-air concert in Eberswalde on the 1st of July, 2007, as well as at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main on the 7th of October that year.

Violinist Hoshiko Yamane joined Tangerine Dream after playing several concerts with them in 2011. She graduated with a diploma in violin at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, and she played as a regular in the Brandenburg State Orchestra. Hoshiko also worked with Jane Birkin on her EU tour, performing in over 30 countries.

In 2013, Rockstar Games approached Edgar Froese to score the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Tangerine Dream produced 62 hours of music and together with the musicians from Oh No, Woody Jackson and The Alchemist, created the music for this extraordinary game. The score was performed live at New York City’s St. Paul the Apostle Church. A limited album, The Cinematographic Score - GTA 5 was released on the 24th of March, 2014.

The last project of Tangerine Dream together with Edgar Froese was Zero Gravity, teaming up with electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre for his collaborative album Electronica I: The Time Machine, alongside artists like Air, Moby, Massive Attack and John Carpenter.
